A native of Columbus, Dr. John Sigman graduated from Brookstone High School in 1991. Following high school, he attended Presbyterian College in Clinton, S.C. and graduated Magna cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 1995. Dr. Sigman received his Doctorate of Dental Medicine from the Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry in Augusta, Georgia in 1999. He joined Dr. J. Robert Smith in private practice in Columbus following dental school. Dr. Sigman later acquired the practice in partnership with Dr. Ed Fernandez, Jr. in 2000 where they continue to practice comprehensive family and cosmetic dentistry.
Since 2008 Dr. Sigman has been the supervising clinical dentist for the Columbus Technical College dental hygiene program. In 2011 he became a contract dentist practicing monthly with Drs. Dwight and Scott McLaurin at Buena Vista Family Dentistry.
Dr. Sigman pursues ongoing education and fellowship through professional membership in the American Dental Association and Georgia Dental Association. Since 2001 Dr. Sigman has served as President of the Kappa Alpha Order Alumni Association. He is a recipient of the Ledger Enquirer's Readers' Choice Award for years 2007 and 2008.
Dr. Sigman and his wife, Carrie, reside in Columbus, Georgia and are members of St. Luke United Methodist Church. They have two children, Mary and George, and a Yorkshire Terrier, BB. In addition to his many personal and professional activites, Dr. Sigman coaches Peach little league, enjoys fishing, canoeing and playing guitar.
Dr. Fernandez is a native Georgian, graduating from Manchester High School in 1981. He attended the University of Georgia in Athens with a minor in chemistry and major in psychology; and received his B.S. in Psychology in 1985. Dr. Fernandez graduated from the Medical College of Georgia Dental School in Augusta, Georgia with a Doctorate of Dental Medicine in 1989. He joined Dr. J. Robert Smith in practice following dental school, and later purchased the practice in partnership with Dr. John Sigman in 2000. Today Dr. Fernandez and Dr. Sigman enjoy providing comprehensive dental services to Columbus families with continued pride in the tradition of kindness and caring set forth by Dr. J Robert Smith.
Dr. Fernandez pursues continuing education through his membership and fellowship in the American Dental Association and Georgia Dental Association, and also participates in Medical College of Georgia Alumni educational programs. He and his family reside in Troup County, where he and his wife live on a ranch raising Angus cattle. Dr. Fernandez has two sons; one flies for the Air Force and one is working towards his animal science degree.
